What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep Tissue bodywork is a manual therapy that targets deeper layers of connective and muscle tissue to create physiological change, addressing “muscle knots,” which can stick to neighboring fibers and inhibit circulation that causes pain and inflammation.
The aim is to release patterns of tension in the body and break up scar tissue using deep, targeted pressure following or crossing over muscle fibers, tendons and fascia. It’s helpful to treat injuries or chronically tight areas like stiff necks and sore shoulders.
Deep tissue massage is not always enjoyable nor for everyone compared to Classic Swedish, but the goal is to eliminate pain at it’s source. Sometimes, addressing painful areas induces more as a side-effect but the outcome of the treatment is to release it.
My deep-tissue services are always conducted at your pace and guided by your tolerance level. You’re in control of the level of depth, breadth, and pressure of the targeted areas. The results are freedom from tightness, tension, and stiffness.
Please note there may be some soreness after a Deep Tissue Massage but it should subside within a day or so. If you have a medical condition or are unsure if Deep Tissue Massage would be right for you, please speak with your primary care provider.
